Family success story

An electrical suppliers and wholesalers, set up in an old air-raid shelter, has reached 35 years in business.

Anson Electronics – based on The Boulevard in Hull, and run by sisters Sue Hulme and Debbie Anson – was established by their father in an air-raid shelter at the bottom of their garden during the 1970s, with the two women, then girls, playing a part.

Today, the firm's customers range from one-man businesses to large manufacturing companies, as well as schools, colleges and universities and pubs and clubs.

Ms Hulme said: "I think men are often surprised when they walk in and see that we're two women.

"But by the time they leave, they realise that we know our stuff."
