First woman president for Chamber

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce enters a new era in September when lawyer Suzanne Liversidge is installed as its first female president.

She will be inaugurated at the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria Hotel on September 19, the same day as the Chamber’s annual general meeting.

Sheffield City Council leader Julie Dore will be the guest speaker.

Ms Liversidge, who is lead partner at the Sheffield office of international law firm Kennedys and specialises in dispute resolution, takes over from Yuri Matischen.

She has a long-standing loyalty to the Chamber and, after winning the title of Businesswoman of the Year in the city’s Business Awards for two consecutive years, was invited by the Chamber to lead the re-launched women in business forum, ‘Inspiring Women’. She also became a member of the Chamber Council.

Ms Liversidge, born and bred in the city and a keen Sheffield United fan, said she doesn’t want to “make a big deal” about becoming the first female president.

She added:” Although it will, of course, be an honour to be the first in the Chamber’s 150-year-plus history, I want Sheffield to have a brand reputation of working together and being successful regardless of gender, so if that’s demonstrated by my forthcoming president’s role, then I accept that with very good grace.”
