From showroom to place of worship after sale

A FORMER car showroom is to be transformed into a place of worship after it was acquired by a community church group.

Mayfield Community Church acquired the building on Westmoreland Street, Harrogate, which has remained unoccupied for the last eight years, for an undisclosed sum.

Carter Jonas handled the sale on behalf of One Medical, the company behind the Mowbray Square Medical Centre, which was developed in 2009.

One Medical bought the car showroom along with workshops and car parking in order to carry out the development.

Planning permission has been granted for change of use to suit the church’s needs.

The 15,000 sq ft site currently includes the main showroom, offices and stores over two floors.

John Webster, partner at Carter Jonas, said: “This is a fairly unusual sale, but the specification and opportunities to alter the interior suited the church down to the ground. We look forward to seeing the development complete later this year.”

Carter Jonas is also marketing the last remaining suite in the Mowbray Square Medical Centre comprising 3,330 sq ft of ground floor accommodation.

The self-contained premises are currently in shell state but can be fitted out.

They include separate access which Carter Jonas said would suit health related, training or general office use.
