Gregory Property submits revised plans to replace corn mill ruin with new offices

A DERELICT former Corn Mill which is believed to date back to the 16th Century could be turned into £1.1m offices after developers submitted revised plans to redevelop the building.

Gregory Property Group plans to create a new two-storey building in its place using some of the existing stone from the former mill.

The grade two listed site, off Low Lane, Horsforth, was used as an auto spares scrapyard but has been empty for the last 10 years.

It was granted permission as part of a refurbishment of the old buildings in September 2006. But further investigations into the levels of remediation required to develop the site for office use and retain the original buildings rendered the permitted scheme unviable.

A revised planning application in 2011 to knock down the building and turn it into offices was rejected in 2013 due to its size and insufficient car parking provision.

Plans to demolish the building also met with fierce criticism from locals who did not want to lose its heritage.

Richard Tovey, director at Gregory Property Group, said: “We feel that we have now arrived at a viable alternative that would be attractive to occupiers seeking a creative office environment.”

The application is due to be considered in early September.
