Helter skelter offices full for first time

An office building for creative businesses which found fame after installing the UK's first office helter skelter is fully occupied for the first time since it was built almost a decade ago.

Business development and management specialist Marjolo has moved into the Electric Works in Sheffield, which has been home to more than 100 creative, digital and new media start-ups and SMEs since 2009.

Marjolo, which employs 12 people, has taken up a 440 sq ft space at the development having previously operated from a virtual office base in Chesterfield.

It plans to employ four new members of staff in the next six months.

Dave King, chief executive of Marjolo, said: “We looked at a number of offices in Chesterfield and couldn’t find anything that fitted our needs, so it made sense for us to head north to Sheffield. Electric Works stood out from all other developments we looked at.

“The location was a key factor for us, being so near to the train station is a huge bonus as we have many clients visiting us from all over the country. There’s a wonderful, creative atmosphere here, from the different offices to the breakout spaces and common areas. We’re really enjoying being here so far and it’s great to have the flexibility to grow the team in our new space.”

There are now 56 businesses located at Electric Works.

Paul Taylor from Creative Space Management, managing agent for Electric Works, said: “Despite being at high occupancy for many years, due to the high growth nature of businesses based in the building and the very flexible terms we have never hit this milestone before.”
