Homes plan for student hall site

Estate services firm DTZ has announced the successful sale of the former Bodington Hall in Adel, north Leeds, to Barratt David Wilson Homes.

The hall – which previously provided 650 catered rooms and 498 self-catered rooms – was one of the largest student accommodation sites owned by the university.

Now Barratt David Wilson Homes is proposing to redevelop the 20-acre site into 110 luxury family homes. Outline planning has been initially secured for a scheme of 157 dwellings.

Steve Gilley, head of estates at the university, confirmed he was delighted with the outcome, adding: “The sale proceeds will be reinvested in developing and enhancing our academic estate and investing in the student experience at our city centre campus.”

DTZ Leeds director Phil Roebuck, who led the sale, said: “This is one of the best residential development sites to come to the market in recent years and it was no surprise that it generated huge interest and an excellent price.”

Managing director of Barratts, Ian Ruthven, said the site “is precisely the type of brownfield site that we are keen to acquire”.

Barratt Yorkshire West previously said the Bodington Hall development site in Adel would be worth around £62m.

The housebuilder beat strong competition from major players in the industry to acquire the site.
