Hope for village’s shut newsagents

WHEN the newsagents closed in Carleton in Craven, near Skipton, there were fears that other local shops and services would suffer.

In tight-knit communities, the loss of a single business can be catastrophic. The newsagents, based on West Road, ceased trading when the previous owner died.

However, it was revealed yesterday that the premises had been bought by development firm, R.N. Wooler and Company.

Gareth Wooler, a director of R.N. Wooler, said: “We hope to make improvements to the shop to make it a viable, sustainable proposition.”

A Carleton village resident said: “It’s so important to see local firms willing to invest in village infrastructure”.

Declan Hayes of AWB Charlesworth provided legal advice in connection with the acquisition.
