Housing proposal for ex-Stylo site

A housing development is planned on the former home of a Yorkshire shoe manufacturer.

Housebuilder Ben Bailey Homes has announced plans for a £20m development of 69 houses in Apperley Bridge, near Bradford, following the acquisition of land on Harrogate Road.

A planning application for the seven acre site, which was once the headquarters of footwear manufacturer Stylo, has been submitted and, if approved, work will start in March.

Mark Mitchell, Ben Bailey Homes’ managing director, said: “The purchase of new land in Apperley Bridge is a significant investment for the business, and part of our ongoing strategy for a major roll out of new developments across Yorkshire in 2015.

“The site building will also create a number of sales and construction jobs over the next two years.”

Last month, the housebuilder announced the acquisition of an 11 acre parcel of land from Harworth Estates at the site of the former Prince of Wales Colliery in Pontefract, where it will build 131 three and four-bedroom homes.

Building work on the site is underway and the first homes are expected to be ready for occupation in the summer.

Based in Wakefield, Ben Bailey Homes Yorkshire is an operating company of Avant Homes, a major private developer of residential and commercial property in the UK.
