Hyco Manufacturing moves to premises more than twice size

THE Yorkshire-based firm that makes water heaters and hand dryers for attractions such as Fountains Abbey and Leeds United’s Elland Road football ground has moved to a new home.

Hyco Manufacturing has been owned by the husband and wife team of Mike and Kirsty McHugh for 16 years.

The couple believe that Yorkshire’s manufacturers can outperform their low-cost rivals by focusing on innovation.

Hyco’s product range includes electric water heating and space heating equipment, as well as hand dryers which are sold to wholesalers and distributors.

Apart from Fountains Abbey and Elland Road, Hyco’s products can also be found in schools, hospitals, restaurants and offices.

Hyco has moved from Castleford to Wakefield Europort as it gears up for expansion.

The new 26,000 sq ft premises at Normandy Court are more than twice the size of the company’s previous 12,000 sq ft home.

The move will enable the manufacturer to meet growing demand for its products.

The company’s move has also enabled Hyco to roll out its recruitment programme, which will see the team grow from 15 to 23 staff over the next three years. A new area sales manager and sales executive are already on board, with more jobs for local people on the way.

Managing director Mr McHugh heads up the operational side of the business, including product development, logistics and supplier management, while Mrs McHugh, is responsible for sales, marketing and finance.

Mr McHugh said: “The move has been planned since last year so it is exciting and inspiring to be in our new home, with plenty of room for expansion. The extra space and improved facilities have given us a good chance to reflect on our business and its operations. We have a real focus on how to take Hyco to the next level now.”

He added: “Everyone – from directors to office and warehouse staff – helped with the relocation. For the week of the move we continued to operate, dispatching goods daily.”
