ICE Renewables seals massive turbines contract

A NORTH Yorkshire renewables technologies business has won a multi-million pound contract to install commercial wind turbines throughout the UK.

ICE Renewables won the exclusive contract, which it says is potentially worth 35m, from French wind turbine manufacturer Vergnet Groupe. The Northallerton-based firm, which provides services including site identification, planning and installation, will supply and maintain 70 Vergnet GEV-MP 275kW wind turbines by 2013.

The turbine projects cost about 500,000 each and average a less than five-year return. They will be used by customers in agriculture, manufacturing, community schemes, country estates and business parks.

The turbines can power milking parlours or equipment and refrigeration where dairy products are made and stored; support manufacturing operations and help remote communities.

Founded in 2006, ICE Renewables has 20 staff and a 750,000 turnover. The company, which expects to double its staff in the next three years, is led by managing director Julian Martin, a former KPMG management consultant.

Mr Martin said: "It is very unusual to negotiate an exclusive nationwide contract for green technology. More than 400 Vergnet turbines, designed for the harsh environmental conditions, are installed worldwide and have an excellent track record.

ICE Renewables received contract law advice from a newly-created sustainable technologies team at York lawyers Denison Till.
