ITM Power signs lease deal with Boeing

CLEAN fuel company ITM Power has signed a lease agreement with aeroplane manufacturer Boeing.

The agreement is for the development, assembly and field trials for an off-grid, solar based hydrogen refuelling station for Boeing’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).

Boeing will be testing a 2.1kg/day PEM electrolyser, one of Sheffield-based ITM’s small scale offerings. Analyst Damian Wachowicz said: “The announcement underpins ITM’s transfer towards the commercialisation of its products and its ongoing dialogues with blue chip companies.

“In addition to its current market targets, including vehicle refuelling (both street and depot), hydrogen energy storage, research departments and universities, back-up power systems and welding equipment, ITM has now added the aerospace industry.

“The announcement continues to demonstrate ITM’s ability to be present in all current and potential hydrogen markets.”

ITM’s chief executive Dr Graham Cooley, said: “ITM Power has had a dialogue with Boeing Research & Technology-Europe for several years and actually completed some of the early ground work that led to the inception of the off-grid solar-based refuelling station for UAS that Boeing Research & Technology Europe is developing in Spain.

“I am delighted that Boeing Research & Technology Europe has now returned to ITM Power to complete the project with our PEM electrolyser techno- logy.”
