It’s critical to take out insurance should a serious illness strike

Richard Bottomley-Mason, a 37-year-old television director, and his partner, Sophie Naylor, a careers guidance specialist, decided to take out insurance to cover decreasing life and critical illness. They have a mortgage and a one-year-old son, Joshua.

Guided by their independent financial adviser Robert Barfield of AWD Chase de Vere in Leeds, the couple selected an Aviva policy and pay a £67 premium monthly.

“Last year we had just moved into our new home and felt such cover was important if either of us came down with a critical illness,” says Richard, adding that neither has a history of CI. “I wanted to get as wide a range of security as possible,” adds Richard, who lives at Wilsden, Bradford.

He said: “If you have a household and can’t work, you don’t want to lose your home.”

IFA Robert Barfield helped the couple complete the forms which asked about their health and medical condition.
