Jet2 looks to holiday booking landmark

Jet2holidays is celebrating five years since its launch and a 500 per cent increase in passenger numbers to over 200,000 in 2011.

Based at Leeds-Bradford Airport, Jet2holidays expects to achieve the half a million customer booking landmark in May this year.

Jet2.com announced the launch of Jet2holidays in February 2007 with three destinations – Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands. It now offers hotels in over 40 European destinations and employs over 85 staff. It has extended its portfolio to offer a range of city breaks including Berlin, Budapest and Istanbul.

The holiday specialist reported a 146 per cent revenue increase to £83.3m, from 2010 to 2011, for the half year to September 30.

Steve Heapy, managing director of Jet2holidays, said: “When we launched Jet2holidays we wanted to make a difference by offering great value flights and a wide range of accommodation options, all with a friendly service.

“We are very proud of what we have achieved over the past five years and our rapid growth is a signal that we are meeting our original aims. In 2011 we carried more than 200,000 passengers to their chosen holiday destination meaning we are well on track for our 500,000th customer booking this spring. Our development is a result of our focus on creating a holiday service that reflects our customer needs – great products at great value prices.

“We are bucking the industry trend in the current climate, with sustained growth and record January bookings, in contrast to the market which is reportedly seven per cent down on last year. Add to this our growth plans for this year, we are confident that 2012 will be a record year for Jet2holidays. We look forward to a bright future serving the people of the North with great value package holidays.”
