Jobs to go at finance company

MORE than 100 jobs are to go at a major financial outsourcing firm, it was revealed yesterday.

HML, which is part of Skipton Building Society, is closing its office in Padiham, near Burnley.

Of the 271 jobs in Padiham, 158 will move to Skipton and 113 will be made redundant.

HML chief commercial and finance officer, Neil Warman, said last night: “Today’s announcement is part of our strategy to realise planned cost savings from our multi-million pound investment in IT over the last three years, and ensure the business is the right shape and size to take advantage of new market opportunities.

“The Padiham site is operating under capacity and we have spare capacity in our Skipton office. It makes sense for us to significantly reduce our fixed costs and get the best value out of our remaining sites. The majority of roles will transfer to Skipton but there will also, regrettably, be a number of redundancies. We understand the personal impact on employees, however, we must make tough decisions that are in the long-term best interest of the majority of our employees.”

HML will help staff to move by supporting them with travel costs and being flexible with working hours. The planned migration of work from Padiham to HML’s other sites will be phased in between June and September.

After the redundancies have been completed, HML will employ about 1,500 staff.
