Lack of support sees industry spectacle delayed

THE organisers of Yorkshire Fashion Week have delayed plans to stage another programme of events to promote the region's £4bn industry due to lack of financial support.

Last year's inaugural Yorkshire Fashion Week culminated in a gala evening at Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium that played host to internationally renowned figures from the industry, including Christopher Bailey, a senior director at Burberry.

It was backed by public sector organisations such as Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency that now faces abolition.

Mr Warburton hopes to find some corporate sponsors for the programme, which he said gives young people opportunities to work with some of the best colleges, universities and textile manufacturing companies.

He said the next Yorkshire Fashion Week will also feature competitions and awards, including a search for the region's best young designer.

"We still intend to launch a series of design competitions in the autumn, through colleges and universities, working towards a fabulous line-up of shows and events next summer, and we'd love to hear from anyone who would like to work with us," said Mr Warburton.
