Leeds chiefs seek private sector cash

Senior figures from Leeds City Council and Marketing Leeds held meetings with property developers in London yesterday, in a bid to secure investment.

Tom Riordan, the chief executive of Leeds City Council was joined by the Director of City Development, Martin Farrington and Jean Dent, the director of Marketing Leeds at a meeting hosted by David Aspin, the chief executive of London-based asset management company, Munroe K.

Mr Riordan said yesterday: “Today’s meeting will provide a platform to engage with major players in the private sector and to talk frankly with them about the potential for investing in Leeds.

“By using our powers, assets and land holdings, including the Leeds Arena, Trinity Leeds and Eastgate Quarters, as a catalyst for regeneration, we can leverage significant additional private investment.”

The event follows on from the city’s presence at MIPIM 2011, the international property conference which was held in Cannes in the south of France.

Ms Dent said: “I am delighted that so many of the investors we met in Cannes are now keen to follow up discussions about working in and with the city.”
