Leeds producing some of the best and brightest business students in the world

ANYONE watching the news in recent months will know big changes are happening in our universities.

Riots in London, protests in Leeds and heated debates in the House of Commons are signs that the UK’s superb higher education system – second in the world only to the US – is to be revolutionised.

From 2012, taxpayers will no longer pay the bulk of the cost of students taking an undergraduate degree. Instead, the majority of the cost will be passed to students, but they will only start to pay for their degrees once they are earning at least £21,000. Universities will be allowed to charge students between £6,000 and £9,000 a year to study.

Institutions are currently deciding how much they will charge, but it’s clear that the University of Leeds’ charges will reflect its outstanding reputation, built on world-class research, learning and teaching.

Because of high demand for Leeds University Business School’s places, reflecting the quality of education we provide, we recently increased entry requirements for undergraduate courses. This means students applying to study this autumn will need three grade As at A-level (or equivalent).

Our entry requirements will be higher than any business school in Yorkshire, ensuring that our students will be among the best and the brightest in the world.

Students from all over the world also choose to study their Masters degree at Leeds University Business School, and our MBA programme is outstanding.

This is fantastic news for businesses in Yorkshire. Having a world-class business school on your doorstep is a great resource and we can help local businesses in many ways.

We want businesses to see students as an asset they can more readily tap into. This could, for example, involve students producing marketing plans for small businesses, or volunteering their time and expertise.

We want our students to be equipped for the next stage of their life when they graduate, with the skills that employers need, which is why practical exposure is so important.

Leeds University Business School is ready for the big changes in higher education.
