Leisure market boost

One of the biggest property funding deals for Yorkshire since the start of the recession will also mean a major boost for the leisure market, according to agents.

Work can now start on a new Vue cinema, at Gregory Projects' Broad Street Plaza, in Halifax, after a 35m deal was agreed with Santander Corporate Banking to fund the leisure phase of the 277,000 sq ft scheme.

The project will also provide a Chinese restaurant, a 100-bed hotel, car parking, ten-pin bowling alley, NHS offices and a Wetherspoons.

Nick Ferris, partner at joint agents King Sturge, said: "The start on site in Halifax has given the leisure sector, both regionally and nationally a major boost, and, hopefully, this will provide the platform for others to come forward."
