Lighting the way for a £5m leisure development

PLANS to develop a former electronics factory into a five-a-side football centre and a family-friendly pub have been submitted to Doncaster Council.

Regeneration specialist St Modwen unveiled the plans for the £5m development of the former Tyco Electronics Factory on Wheatley Hall Road, Doncaster, which include a Goals Soccer Centre and family-friendly pub.

The application has been submitted in partnership with Cooper Lighting, which shared the site with Tyco and continues to operate there.

If given the go-ahead, the site will also include retail units and new car parking facilities for Cooper Lighting, with whom St Modwen has been working to formulate a scheme that enables them to remain at the site.

Stephen Prosser, regional director at St Modwen, said: “We have spent some considerable time consulting with Doncaster Council and Cooper Lighting in order to go forward with the proposals. Our over-riding aim has been to ensure that Cooper Lighting’s long-term future is secured and that a significant number of jobs are maintained – and indeed created – on this vital site for Doncaster.”
