‘Manic’ few weeks help Doyle recover from the effects of the recession

A YORKSHIRE security company yesterday revealed that its fortunes were rising after it suffered a dip in trade during the recession.

It was revealed that Doyle Consultants’ full year turnover had risen by more than a quarter to £3.68m. Managers described the last few weeks as “manic”, with the headquarters at Dodworth, near Barnsley, inundated with requests for help.

The company’s recovery has been boosted by the business support programme Enterprising Barnsley, which has helped with marketing, a new website and management advice.

Set up in 1985, Doyle Consultants supply security services, including security industry authority licensed security officers and monitored CCTV systems.

Clients include local councils, a health trust, private firms, Barnsley Football Club and construction companies. Contracts manager Andrew Everitt said the downturn in the construction industry led to the company’s turnover dropping from an all-time-high of £4.2m in 2008 to just £2.8m in 2009. It recovered slightly to £2.9m in 2010 and reached £3.68m for the year ending March 2011.

“It was a difficult time when the recession hit, but now we look back and see it was a blip and not a full-blown slump,” said Mr Everitt.
