Master of the Rolls to give keynote lecture

THE rise of Twitter and Facebook poses challenges for the courts.

Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, the Master of the Rolls, is today due to tell a Yorkshire audience about how he believes the legal system should respond to the growing influence of the internet and social media.

He will deliver a lecture to an invited audience of senior judges, magistrates, barristers and solicitors, from across West Yorkshire at a major event at Leeds University.

Lord Neuberger was invited to talk on the subject of ‘Justice in the internet age’ by Tony Grant, the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire.

The Master of The Rolls is the second most senior judge in England and Wales. He sits beneath the Lord Chief Justice in terms of seniority.

Mr Grant said yesterday: “The visit of Lord Neuberger is a great honour for West Yorkshire and will further strengthen the region’s reputation as a centre of legal excellence.

“We are delighted he accepted the invitation and we very much look forward to his lecture.”

“This lecture is just the latest in series of high profile visits to the city and the presidents of both the Leeds and Bradford Law Societies will be in attendance. Its significance to the city and wider Leeds city region should not be underestimated.”
