More tenants join The Piece Hall in Halifax

Four new businesses are set to open their doors at the historic Piece Hall in Halifax, following the recent opening of a year round store specialising in Christmas themed ornaments and gifts.

The new traders are poised to sign leases at the former cloth hall. Two of the businesses will offer food and drink while a photographic studio and a gift shop offering curated gift boxes will also join the Piece Hall.

Leaf, occupying a 490 sq ft, is a vegan and eco-conscious store selling toiletries, gifts and some take-away food lines. The business hopes to expnad into catering in the future.

Adrienne Sandy, owner of Leaf, said: “I love the history of the building and since the sympathetic restoration I think it is even better.

“I enjoy the feeling of community amongst the people that work here and I’m really looking forward to being part of that.”

South Wall Photography has taken a 294 sq ft studio at the Piece Hall.They are joined by The Wine Barrel.

While Hudson Belle, a gift shop which will offer curated gift boxes, will be opening on December 12.

All these businesses follow in the footsteps of A Piece of Christmas, a year round store specialising in festive themed ornaments and gifts which opened in September.

Frances Bournes, who runs A Piece of Christmas, said: “I think it is a fabulous space, especially for families and it is a special place to come and work every day.”

Nicky Chance-Thompson, CEO of The Piece Hall, says the former cloth hall has become a “must visit” destination for independent shops.

She said: “One of our primary objectives is to offer shoppers and visitors something different that additionally compliments the rich heritage of the building.

“The Piece Hall has always innovated and we feel that this is reflected in our tenant mix which will change and evolve over time.

“We see the evidence of our collective success every day with visitor numbers at The Piece Hall far exceeding expectations - it really has put the town and region on the map.”

The Piece Hall was reopened in August 2017. The Grade I listed building has 66,000 sq ft open air piazza.
