Morgan Sindall still top of the pile in Yorkshire

MORGAN Sindall is the top performing contractor in Yorkshire, according to the latest construction industry intelligence.

The contractor secured 13 deals worth £215.5m to retain its lead at the top of the table for the fourth month running, said Glenigan.

Morgan Sindall was followed by fellow non-movers Carillion, with three deals worth £202.3m, and Balfour Beatty, on ten deals worth £182.3m.

Elsewhere in this month’s league table, which covers the year to January 2014, Wates and Royal BAM both saw positive movement, as Kier and ISG slipped down to the tail end of the top ten.

Meanwhile Sheffield-based Henry Boot was a new entry at number seven after securing eight deals totalling £64m.

The top 50 national league tables saw Balfour Beatty move up two places to take the number one spot thanks to a series of high profile deals, including a £150m contract to redevelop the Olympic Stadium for the Olympic Park Legacy Company, a £183m job for the Highways Agency on the M3 and a £75m line electrification project between Preston to Blackpool North for Network Rail.

Laing O’Rourke was a new entry at number three after being awarded the main contractor role on the £180m Clarges Estate mixed-use scheme in London for British Land.

John Sisk also had a successful month, rising an impressive 19 places after winning a £60m hotel scheme for joint clients Helical Bar and Crosstree at Old Street in London.

Glenigan league tables are produced from comprehensive UK construction activity data and provide a snapshot of contractor performance over a 12-month period.

Projects are tracked to completion on site by Glenigan researchers, who make over one million phone calls per year to provide timely, robust data.

Earlier this month, Morgan Sindall reported a 34 per cent slide in annual profits after margins were hit by competition across its construction, infrastructure and affordable housing divisions.
