Morrisons to roll out ‘lab stores’ after trial success

MORRISONS will not launch an online food offer for the sake of it, according to chief executive Dalton Philips.

He said: “We would walk away from the food website if it wasn’t profitable. It’s not fair for our core customers to have to pay for the online operation.” These initiatives, alongside plans to launch a general merchandise online website Morrisons.com later this year, will turn Morrisons into a very different chain to the one Sir Ken was running five years ago. That said, Mr Philips and his team are keen to stay true to Sir Ken’s principles of fresh food and good value.

Morrisons reported record annual results last week and said its performance will beat rivals.
