New customers for WANdisco

Software firm WANdisco said revenue rose seven per cent to £1.7m in its second quarter after its new Big Data product WANdisco Fusion attracted eight new customers and sales bookings of £640,000.

The Sheffield-based firm said it gained new customers following ​collaborations with Oracle​ and​ with partners from the Hadoop Open Data Platform including Hortonworks, and also from integrations with Cloudera customers.

​The term Big Data refers to data that is so large and complex it cannot be processed using traditional desktop computers.

It is used by Internet giants such as Yahoo, Netflix, Amazon and eBay to keep their operations going.​

WANdisco said costs were tightly controlled and were lower in the second quarter than in the first. It added that cost control will continue to be a focus throughout the rest of the year.

​The firm said its new customers are all large, global corporations from a range of industries, most commonly financial services. It added that all new customers intend to scale up their subscriptions over time.
