After originally planning to incorporate retail, food, theatre, museums and business, the proposals changed to include a hotel and casino.

This project was dropped as a result of the ‘changing business environment’ stemming from the 2009 recession and community opposition to the casino, New Era Development’s Jerry Cheung said.

Instead, rental income from private student accommodation will provide the majority of return for investors, capitalising on the growing number of Chinese and international students coming to the city.
