New trust aims to help change lives

JOB-HUNTERS and budding businessmen and women can now get free support from an organisation that helps people to change their lives.

Access to volunteering and training opportunities will also be available through the Doncaster West Development Trust (DWDT).

The trust has secured the contract to operate the new Steps to Success programme.

The project will be run by qualified work and enterprise coaches. It will focus on issues ranging from confidence-building to business planning.

DWDT aims to help thousands of people confront issues that affect their quality of life.

In many cases, they need more skills training and practical support to overcome personal barriers.

With 12 months of funding from Success Doncaster, the council’s work, skills and enterprise programme, the trust is providing services to people keen to improve their employment prospects.

Coaches are based at Doncaster borough’s 11 Opportunity Centres and work closely with specialist agencies to help individuals achieve their goals.

According to project manager Mick Bailey, the “outreach nature” of the initiative will offer significant benefits to clients.

He said: “Steps to Success is designed to be accessible to people borough-wide and is tailored to individual needs.

“We’ll be working closely with agencies including Jobcentre Plus and Doncaster Chamber to signpost people to the best services for them”
