Norking’s role in the design of £27m Silverstone Wing

Norking Aluminium will be watching the 2011 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix with a special interest this weekend after designing and manufacturing the façade for the new Silverstone Wing at the world famous motor racing circuit.

The £27m Silverstone Wing comprises 43,000 sq ft of glazed exhibition space, a conference centre with 21,500 sq ft of flexible space and a 100-seat auditorium.

Mark Burton, production director at Doncaster-based Norking Aluminium, said: “Norking has been fortunate enough to be involved in the building of some of the most iconic stadia in the United Kingdom and we were delighted and privileged to have the opportunity to work on the new Silverstone Wing.

Designed by Populous, which specialises in sports environments, and constructed by the Buckingham Group Contracting, the Silverstone Wing was opened in May by president in chief of the British Racing Drivers’ Club, the Duke of Kent, in front of more than 800 guests, including five of Britain’s six living Formula 1 Champions and fellow Formula 1 luminaries including Sir Stirling Moss.
