North Yorkshire antiques and taxidermy auction offers peculiar items

Leyburn-based, family-run Tennants Auctioneers is hosting its Natural History & Taxidermy sale from 10.30am today.

The collection includes antique and modern natural history and taxidermy by many well known collectible artists such as Henry Ward, Peter Spicer, Tony Armitstead, Rob Marshall, Brian Lancaster, Rowland Ward and more.

There are more than 330 lots available, including part one of an extensive natural history collection from Hubertus Baron Ullman Von Ullmansberg, Germany.

Among the items for sale is a comprehensive set of beetles, insects and carabids collected by Dr D A Kendall.

There is also a Scottish mountain hare by Brian Lancaster of Bedale; a cased tawny owl from around 1922 to 1930 by Roland Ward of London; and an anthropomorphic diorama of card playing gray squirrels dating from the last century.

Tennants Auctioneers is a fourth-generation family business and says it is one of the UK’s largest international antiques and fine art auctioneers.

Situated in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, Tennants holds more than 80 sales a year, connecting more than 200,000 buyers and sellers a year.
