A RESURGENT Hull city centre will be the focus for one in five new houses being built in the city over the next two decades, according to a new planning blueprint.

Hull’s Local Plan, which is going out for final public consultation next month, suggests 12,160 houses will be built in Hull by 2032 - including 2,500 in the city centre and a similar figure on the city’s successful Kingswood estate.

Alex Codd, Hull Council’s city planning manager, said there was more interest now from prospective housebuilders and developers than in the past 10 years. As well as public sector investment - including the £19m city centre upgrade - firms like Siemens and Reckitt Benckiser were investing.

He said: “The plan is ambitious while being realistic. We are looking at 2,500 homes in the city centre; it’s something we are keen to see happen now that there’s an opportunity for that to come forward given the level of investment in the city centre.”

Up to 40 per cent of the new homes to 2032 will be built on green field sites.

The council’s Cabinet yesterday gave the go-ahead for a six-week public consultation on the final version.

Coun Martin Mancey said: “This new plan is essential in terms of allowing future developments to get off the ground, and by agreeing for further consultations to take place it will provide another opportunity for the public and stakeholders to comment on these potential sites again.”

Hard copies will be available at various Council receptions, Hull libraries and Customer Service Centres, and also online.
