Orsis in smart meter plea to Government

smart metering company Orsis UK has called on the Government to consider that there is “a cheaper and simpler” smart meter available now, before it starts a full scale roll-out of smart meters to homes and businesses in Britain.

Smart meters show customers their energy use in real-time, allowing them to respond quickly to save money.

The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee is to publish its report on the Government’s domestic smart meter roll-out programme on Tuesday.

In a statement Orsis, based in Harrogate, said: “Orsis submitted evidence to the Public Accounts Committee, and made the point to them that there is a cheaper and simpler smart meter available now, which would save customers money but still deliver the benefits that smart metering can bring.

“Orsis has called on the Government to look at an alternative solution through an impact assessment and/or undertake a large pilot scheme before commencing a full scale roll-out.”
