Partnership will fight cyber-crime

A partnership has been established which could make it easier for Yorkshire firms to fight off cyber criminals.

Onyx Group, which has a base in Manvers, near Rotherham, has joined forces with Sentrix in the fight against Distributed Denial of Service Attacks (DDoS).

A DDoS attack is a malicious attempt to make a server or a network resource unavailable, usually by suspending the services of a host connected to the internet.

According to Onyx, the attacks are the most costly and disruptive forms of cybercrime, and account for roughly 55 per cent of all annual cybercrime costs.

Sentrix has designed a cloud-based security system that protects websites against attacks, and prevents hackers from compromising sensitive data.

The partnership between Onyx Group and Sentrix will bring the Cloud-DMZ technology to the UK market. The Onyx Group’s Rotherham facility offers businesses access to a 250-seat workplace recovery centre, alongside a data centre.

Ofer Wolf, the chief executive of Sentrix, said that Sentrix’s technology eliminates more than 99 per cent of a website’s potential “attack surface” which means hackers have almost no way of passing through to the original site. Onyx has 170 staff, spread across 11 sites across the UK.
