Plastic fantastic for Caledonian

Manufacturer Caledonian Plastics is set to boost its turnover after investing in new machinery.

The Sheffield-based company, which is on course to increase its turnover from £1.7m to £1.8m this year, invested £150,000 in an injection moulding machine and is planning to buy a new blow moulding machine.

Managing director John Laing, pictured, said: “We are in a very competitive marketplace, especially from foreign competition.

“Offering quality products and being flexible on the size of orders (however small) has helped us to remain successful.”

The company manufactures a range of plastic injection and blow moulding products, including coolant tanks and air ducting for Triumph Motorcycles and a part for securing parked bicycles, used in a cycle hire scheme championed by London mayor Boris Johnson.

It recently received support from the Manufacturing Advisory Service Yorkshire and Humber, which helps manufacturers to improve productivity and efficiency.
