Property People

What are the prospects for the property sector in Yorkshire and Humber?

The level of enquiries from across the region for the work we do in the property sector is increasing. The recent changes to the planning regime through the National Planning Policy Framework as well as the changes in the approach of the Highways Agency to be more of a delivery partner for sustainable economic growth, have certainly been for the better. All of this is generating plenty of opportunities for our clients.

What is the best project you have been involved in?

The best one for me personally has been the most recent one we have undertaken in bringing forward the transport strategy to support a planning application for a new 10,000 capacity community stadium for Castleford Tigers RLFC.

What is your favourite building in the region and why?

I love the way The Tetley former brewery HQ building has been sensitively brought back into use as a place to visit as well as an excellent bar and restaurant. We recently had our third birthday event there and we thought it was a great space.

If you could change one thing to improve the property industry in this region, what would it be?

Being able to call on a much more substantial level of public money to spend on improving local transport infrastructure would unlock more opportunities to create jobs and growth across the region, and create a bigger critical mass for our economy.

Who has inspired you?

People who drive themselves to achieve better things for others, often in the face of adversity. Reading Nelson Mandela’s book “A Long Walk to Freedom”, you realise how lucky we are to have the freedoms within our society that we so often take for granted.
