£1.5m facelift for city centre hotel

An historic city centre hotel has undergone a £1.5m renovation after it was acquired by a hotel group following administration. Focus Hotels took over The Royal Hotel in Hull last year in a move which secured 117 jobs.

The hotel's future was in doubt after former owner, the Real Hotel Company, went into administration. It was one of 10 hotels previously leased by the Real Hotel Company to be taken over by Focus Hotels across the UK.

The Royal Hotel, which is situated next to the train station, was built in 1851 and is one of Hull's most famous and historically significant Victorian buildings. It has been visited by dignitaries including Queen Victoria and it is where Philip Larkin wrote the poem Friday Night at the Royal Station Hull.

The foyer, lounge and bar have undergone a facelift and the en-suite bedrooms have been refurbished.
