£1.5m refurbishment at care home creates need for 12 staff

TWELVE jobs are being created following a £1.5m refurbishment at one of the oldest residential care homes in West Yorkshire.

The jobs will be for specialist dementia, nursing and auxiliary staff at the Springfield residential care home, in Garforth, near Leeds, which opened in 1967.

It brings the total number of staff employed at the home to more than 70.

A new 33-bed dementia care unit has been built by PDR Construction, Hull.

Interior designs have been provided by Harrogate-based creative design group, Adorn Creative. They include large images taken from old photographs of Leeds and artwork depicting a woodland walkway.

Graeme Lee, Springfield Healthcare Group chairman, said: "An aging population means that the care of older people, especially those with dementia, is becoming vital."

Springfield Healthcare Group, which started as the family-run home in Garforth, also includes six sheltered apartments and an expanding domiciliary home care business, which is one of the biggest of its kind in Yorkshire and Humber. It cares for about 2,500 people.
