Quake engineer and experienced leader 
bring expertise to construction hire firm

MABEY Hire, the Dewsbury-based company which offers hire products to the construction industry, has made two senior appointments.

Chartered civil engineer Tom Williams joins as director of engineering, while Brian Williams is Mabey Hire’s new corporate development director. Tom is experienced in both design and management across the diverse range of civil and structural engineering sectors, with companies including MOUCHEL, London Underground, Robert West and Price & Myers.

He was a lead engineer on the earthquake recovery programme in Christchurch.

Brian has 17 years’ leadership experience in the industry, with companies such as Pilkington, British Vita and Shanks Group.

“These are both significant new additions to the Mabey Family, with a wealth of experience in the industry. They will be key assets to our leadership team and will support our business drive to grow our customer base and reputation in new markets,” said Mark Rooney, managing director at Mabey Hire.

Meanwhile, online retailer Graphics Direct has recruited office supplies marketing specialist Kelly Dixon to head the firm’s new venture, Graphics Office.

Ms Dixon who joins the retailer from stationery supplier Jespers, will manage the new office supplies website that launched last month and will be based at the firm’s Tockwith head office and warehouse.

East Yorkshire-based independent commercial finance brokerage ECS Group has announced the appointment of Stuart Lake as business development director. He has more than 21 years’ experience as a business development manager in invoice finance working for Coface, Bank of Scotland, Barclays and TSB and gained experience in new business sales and relationship management.

Elsewhere, five trainees at Langleys Solicitors LLP have been taken on by the firm as newly qualified solicitors. James Bradley, Tim Newcome, Amy Heron, Mae Salem and Adrian Lyon have joined the York-based firm.

Cabinet maker Matt Ingall-Tombs has been recruited as an assistant quantity surveyor by Cooper and Hall, taking the workforce total to nine.

Phil Cooper, director at the Harrogate-based quantity surveying company, said: “Matt brings a number of skills with him and he will be assisting the quantity surveyors on a variety of projects. In addition to the hands on experience he is gaining from us, he is also studying for a quantity surveying degree.”
