Seaways strengthens fleet with freight only ferry

FERRY operator DFDS Seaways is expanding its freight ferry services between Immingham in North East Lincolnshire and Rotterdam in Holland.

The freight only ferry Anglia Seaways will be added to the freight route to “enhance capacity and frequency” from January 17, the firm said. Sean Potter, managing director of DFDS Seaways’ freight services in the UK, said: “In recent months, we have seen a good development in freight traffic to and from the Humber area and are acting on demand from our customers.

“We are proud to announce that from January 17 we will add an extra ship to our services between our Immingham terminal, one of the largest ro-ro ports in the UK, and our terminal in Rotterdam, with its excellent road connections to all parts of the Continent.”

The Anglia Seaways is a freight only ferry (ro-ro ship) that increases the number of vessels between Immingham/Felixstowe in the UK and Rotterdam from five to six, with three of those on the Immingham-Rotterdam route.

Mr Potter added: “In the future there will be seven departures per week from Immingham to Rotterdam which further enhances our ability to provide our customers such as hauliers, heavy industries, food industry and others with robust, compe-titive and reliable sea transport.

“As one of the leading ferry companies in this market we will be able to offer more than 50 departures per week between Holland and the UK (Immingham, Felixstowe and Newcastle) and thus provide customers with a flexibility, which I am confident will be appreciated, especially at peak times in the middle of the week.”

The Anglia Seaways has 1,680 lane metres, equivalent to 120 trailers, for cargo such as unaccompanied trailers, lorries, cars and special cargoes. The ship was built in 2000 and comes from service in the Irish Sea.
