Sheffield-based FourJaw develops platform to aid firms in reducing energy costs

Sheffield-based FourJaw has announced an expansion to its manufacturing analytics platform which aims to promote sustainable practices and reduce energy costs for manufacturing businesses.

The firm’s new feature aims to provide real-time and historical insights into energy usage by machine, cell or factory, helping manufacturers understand their energy consumption better, and thus implement measures to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.

Robin Hartley-Willows, FourJaw co-founder and CTO says “Looking at the economic conditions, rising energy costs, push and pull factors to become more sustainable, which attract government incentives for energy efficiency, we recognised reducing energy usage is a priority for many manufacturers.

“Driving efficient manufacturing processes is at the heart of FourJaw and we believe that by integrating energy monitoring within our existing machine monitoring platform, we can enable manufacturers to understand individual and overall manufacturing costs, by identifying where energy is wasted, and making informed decisions about processes and behaviours that will drive energy efficient and productive manufacturing.”

The firm said that the latest developments come off the back of customer feedback after firms said they were looking into new wats ro manage and offset the huge rise in energy costs seen in the last year.

The new update also aims to encourage behavioural changes among factory workers to support continuous improvement programs and reduce wasted energy.

The energy monitoring function will be incorporated into the existing FourJaw platform, which the firm says will allow manufacturers to combine energy and machine usage data to “achieve the most sustainable, productive and profitable manufacturing processes”.

FourJaw’s energy monitoring functionality launches at the end of March and will be available on all existing FourJaw subscriptions.

In October of last year, FourJaw partnered with the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre on a £867,000 pilot project. The project saw the university select 14 businesses to recieve and try out FourJaw’s machine monitering system.
