Shorthorn summit makes UK return

The Shorthorn World Conference will be held in the UK this summer for the first time since 1989.

Starting in Edinburgh on June 23, it will include a tour of 14 farms from the Scottish Highlands to East Anglia, including Gerald Turton's Upsall and Roxby Estate, Thirsk, home to the oldest shorthorn herd in England, before a two-day conference in Stratford on Avon and gala dinner on July 7-8.

Former Coronation Street actor Sean Wilson will be at Keelham Hall Farm Shop in Thornton, Bradford, tomorrow to promote products from his Saddleworth Cheese Co. at Inglewhite, near Preston.

The Thornton shop is becoming a stockist. Mr Wilson played Martin Platt for 20 years and has also appeared in Waterloo Road, Dancing on Ice and Master Chef.

Northeast Biofuels, a federation of businesses with a shared interest, has organised an open day at a farm growing wheat for ethanol production – at Eryholme, near Darlington, on June 23, 10-5.
