Sir George returns to university roots
Knighted in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours, Sir George is now chairman, president and chief executive of US-based 3M, the multi-national company whose portfolio of iconic brands includes Scotch Tape and Post- It.
He visited Huddersfield University, where he studied for a BSc in electrical and electronic engineering in 1969 and subsequently gained a PhD in engineering.

Hide AdVice-chancellor Professor Bob Cryan updated him on the university’s latest developments including plans for a new design centre on Queen Street; a new £12m enterprise and innovation centre, now under construction; and a five-year, £8m project to ensure massive improvements in machine tool accuracy by the Centre for Precision Technologies.
