Six figure revamp for iconic Scarborough hotel agreed

The Ambassador Hotel, a Victorian hotel on Scarborough’s esplanade overlooking South Bay, is installing en-suite bathrooms and boilers.

It is being assisted by a funding package from Yorkshire Bank, which is allowing the 59-bed hotel to carry out the refurbishments quickly.

And it now hopes occupancy levels will rise.

Charlotte Jackson, a co-director of the hotel which is less than a two-minute walk from the beach, said: “We’re extremely pleased with the results of our investment.

“As well as offering attractive wet-room style facilities, the bathrooms feature a much more powerful water system and showers with plenty of hot water to go round.

“The support we received from Yorkshire Bank was first class. We’ve been with the bank for 15 years now, but much of the process was new to us because we’ve never had to borrow before.

“The project is the best thing we’ve done in a long time and it was good to get it finished quickly.

“If Yorkshire Bank hadn’t provided us with funding we would have introduced upgrades in stages and it would have taken years to complete.

“We are thrilled with the refurbishments and looking forward to another sunny summer in Scarborough.”

All the en-suite bathrooms on the third floor have now been replaced and further modernisation will take place out of season.

The funding was delivered by Brian De Vere, a Yorkshire Bank relationship manager based at the North Yorkshire Customer Banking Centre.
