Sky creates 300 jobs for new technical team

The entertainment company, which currently employs 1,100 people across Yorkshire, is seeking software developers, testers and engineers for roles and aims to fill the positions by June 2015.

This is the first Sky technical services team to be located in Leeds. The city is currently home to the broadcaster’s Sky Bet division.

Sky’s director of information systems, Colin McQuade, said the jobs were a “fantastic opportunity” to join the business as it invests in the city.

“The new technical team in Leeds will help us to continue to provide a service that is the industry leader for technology and meets the needs of each and every one of our customers,” he said.

Vacancies will range from entry and graduate level to senior team leaders and managers.

The company plans to use existing links with Leeds and Sheffield universities to recruit graduates for jobs under its Sky Academy talent scheme.

Sky has 500 contact centre employees in the region, with 100 Sky Sports and background staff and 500 Sky Betting and Gaming employees.

In December, Sky sold a controlling stake of its Sky Betting and Gaming business to CVC Capital Partners.

The deal valued Sky Bet at £800m.
