On the Spot with Jason Blakey

What was your first job?

Working on a farm during the holidays from school and university. It was hard work and long hours but I got to drive tractors and learn about different types of crops, potatoes, fruits and cows.

If you weren't in your present job, what would you like to do?

A farmer or an astronaut. The latter would be my ideal job but the former is more realistic.

What was your worst mistake?

Playing my wife at backgammon. She is fiercely competitive at any board game, and I always lose.

What is your ideal day away from the office?

Spending time with my wife and two boys, whether that be wandering down to the local park or swimming in the sea somewhere hot.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with, and why.

Neil Armstrong. To ask him the obvious questions.

What was your best subject at school?

I enjoyed most subjects at school, apart from physics which was deathly boring, but my best subject seemed to vary from year to year. Probably maths for its logical and scientific approach.

What are your hobbies?

Coaching and playing rugby, most sport and entertaining my sons.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

I would like to think that I may still work part-time but, in truth, I expect that I would retire and move somewhere hot. I would definitely spend and/or give away all of my winnings away.

What's your top time-saving tip?

Bearing in mind that I am often late, which my eldest son hates when he is late for school, put the children to bed in their school uniform.

What is your favourite item of clothing?

Probably my jeans as it means I'm relaxing somewhere.

What is your favourite time of the day?

Breakfast time at the weekend. It's full of noisy chatter about

the day ahead and instructions as to what I will be doing and when.

What would your epitaph be?

Better late than never.
