On The Spot With Jeremy Brooke

Jeremy Brooke is a partner in Sheffield law firm Simpson Sissons & Brooke.

What was your first job?

I had my own market stall selling cutlery on Rotherham markets. I made really good money for a 17-year-old and then got lured away into the world of making fence panels.

If you weren’t in your current position, what would you be doing?

I’d like to think that I’d be a water sports instructor.

What was your worst mistake?

I’ve made so many it’s hard to pick one – maybe listening to my primary school teacher who told me that it was wrong to be ambitious.

What’s you ideal day away from the office?

A day at the coast with my kids.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why.

My dad. I miss him and there’s a load for us to catch up on from the last 10 years.

What was your best subject at school?

PE. I was and am sports mad.

What are your hobbies?

DIY and gardening take a lot of my spare time. I also like to fit some sport in when I can, with golf being the most popular at present.

I win it regularly but £5.40 doesn’t get you very far these days. If I won millions I’d take a world tour and see as many of the disappearing cultures as possible before they’re all like us.

What’s your favourite item of clothing?

I’m not a clothing fan. It serves a purpose but I’m not a shopper.

What’s your favourite time of day?

I love to see the sun set. Whether it’s over the city or over the sea there is something calm and beautiful about the fading light and a reddening sun.

What’s the best thing about Yorkshire?

Yorkshire folk. Friendly, down to earth and straight-talking.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

Jeremy Brooke. Solicitor. Office now on the top floor.
