Temp cashier in a London department store.

If not in your present job, what would you like to do?

Reporting on luxury hotels and travelling around the world.

What was your worst mistake?

Studying sciences at school and thinking that I wanted to be a dentist.

What would be your ideal day away from the office?

An awayday with my wife and two grown-up kids or a round of golf at Augusta.

Name one person you would most like to have dinner with?

John Lennon.

What political, legal or economic event would you most like to see happen in your lifetime and why?

The end of all forms of discrimination and ingrained bigotry and prejudice.

What was your best subject at school?

Geography, but not very good at most subjects.

What are your hobbies?

Golf, tennis, eating out and watching Leeds United

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

Make a major charitable donation, take a three-month sabbatical and then take a view.

What is your top time-saving tip?

Prioritise what you are doing in the day and make sure you stick to it.

What is your favourite time of the day and why?

Evening. It’s a good time to relax after the day and to have thinking time for the next day.

What is your favourite garment?

Football scarf because it means that I’ll be going to watch Leeds United.

What is the best thing about being in Yorkshire?

Great working environment, countryside and quality of life. Compact and friendly community.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

He was ok for a southerner.
