What was your first job?

I worked as a doorman in Hamburg's red light district when I was 19.

If you weren't in your present position, what would you be doing?

I would be looking after the personal security of a high-profile business man/woman, somewhere in southern Europe.

What was your worst mistake?

I could have done more to contribute towards a much healthier family unit when I was younger. I was too adventurous and a very eager young man.

Describe your ideal day away from the office.

I would be sitting outside a caf in Paris with my wife, Joanna, chilling out and watching the world go by, while enjoying fine espresso or a seriously good bottle of Bordeaux.

Name the one person you would most like to have dinner with.

My 21-year-old son, Nicolai, who lives in Germany with his mother. I don't get to see him as often as I would like. However, our friendship certainly exceeds a normal father and son relationship.

What was your best subject at school?

Geography and sports

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

Get a nice house in the South of France or Portugal for my family to enjoy life, continue working as a consultant and give something back to community.

What is your top time-saving tip?

Being German, I suggest efficient standard operating procedures and good planning.

What is your favourite time of day, and why?

Sitting at home with my wife, with our dalmatian squashed between us, enjoying the last two hours of the day, accompanied by some anti pasti, strong smelly cheese and a good bottle of Chianti.

What is your favourite item of clothing?

I have a North Face Apex Bionic Jacket I wear when going into the mountains, and I would not go without it.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

A man of honour with a heart of gold.
