Taste for luxury drives on Burberry

Burberry met forecasts with an 18 per cent rise in second-half sales, driven by strong sales in Britain, France and China, and said it was positive on the year ahead.

The 156-year-old luxury brand reported total revenues of £1.027bn for the six months to the end of March, in line with analysts’ average forecast of £1.03bn.

The company said retail revenues, which now account for 72 per cent of group sales, rose almost a quarter to £743m and that the outlook was good.

Burberry’s Castleford factory is key to the success of the group.

Capacity has doubled at the site to 600 employees, who make the iconic heritage trenchcoat.

“We are pleased with Burberry’s finish to the year across all channels, regions and product divisions,” said chief executive Angela Ahrendts.
