firmiSiS-Ex stands by its name

YORKSHIRE-based technology firm iSiS-EX has no plans to follow the private equity house Isis and change its name to avoid any association with the terrorist organisation.

A spokesman for iSiS-Ex, which employs 36 people and has a production base in Malton, North Yorkshire, said it had never considered changing its title.

Managing director Howard Gould said: “We find ourselves in a very unusual position and, since we sell our product globally, we have had to make clear that events in Syria and Iraq have nothing whatsoever to do with us.

“But we have no plans to change our name. We’re a technology company that manufactures equipment that is safe for use in hazardous areas... We’ve used the name iSiS – which stands for Intrinsically Safe Intelligent System – since 1989. ‘Ex’ is industry shorthand for hazardous area equipment.

“Fortunately, because we are so well established in our field and our customer base knows us to be an innovative British computer specialist, any confusion has been limited to those outside the industry.”

Earlier this week, Wol Kolade, the managing partner at Isis Equity Partners, said the firm was no longer prepared to share its name with a terrorist organisation. Mr Kolade hopes to reveal the private equity firm’s new name within a few weeks.
