Tenants take a shine to revamped mill buildings

THE first phase of a rural office development will be unveiled next week after developers decided to transform old mill buildings into modern offices.

The four-acre Wheatley Park complex, on the outskirts of Mirfield, in West Yorkshire, is being developed by St James Securities.

The buildings, formerly Hopton Mills, date back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

The first completed building, The Watermill, is a 2m development comprising 27,000 sq ft, and work has already started on a second, the 1812 Building.

Camira Fabrics will be the first tenants to move on to the

site, taking 26,000 sq ft at The Watermill.

Interior architecture firm Normal TM, and marketing consultants Purebrand Creative Communications have signed up for the 1812 Building.

Oliver Quarmby, of St James Securities, Leeds, said: "Wheatley Park is an oasis of calm, only minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the Calder Valley and M62 corridor."

He added: "We have secured planning permission for the conversion of a further two buildings. Ultimately, we hope to create a thriving, highly-regarded business environment."

Hanson Chartered Surveyors, of Huddersfield, and Michael Steel & Co, of Leeds, are the agents.
